About Scotweb

Web Site Creation

no dancing hippos

This web page about Scotweb is not, frankly, vastly entertaining. If we had included an animation of hippopotami dancing it might well have amused you more. However, we will bet you can find the information you came looking for more quickly than with from many of our competitors...

Design Philosophy

The quest for effectiveness drives all our designs. The vast majority of users share one thing in common. They have come to find out about the services you offer, as quickly and easily as possible. Our task is to enable them. It is then their choice whether to use that service.

Role Models

Don't take our word for this. Don't even believe the usability experts (who are quite unanimous). Just look at the world's most successful web sites! Google, Amazon, ebay, Yahoo! and many others have learned this lesson. They ALL use quick-loading, animation-free, predominantly black-on-white, clear and intuitive layouts... free of musical backing! Why? Because this formula means more people use them successfully, and so return again.

Expertise

Achieving simplicity can be a complex technical process, and hard work. At Scotweb we put web site usability and accessibility at the very heart of our design and development process. Our MD, Nick Fiddes, is an acknowledged web accessibility expert, who Scottish Enterprise commissioned to author their official Smart Guide on the issue.

Case Study

sales growth chart

And it works! In one case we re-engineered an existing site that to most eyes already looked satisfactory and was delivering sales with which the client was quite content. The content, range, and prices did not change... only the navigation and download time of pages.

The result was a sustained overnight sales increase of 400%. (Independent verification available on request.)

Style

We are happy to let our designs speak for themselves. A good site delivers its services to as many potential users as possible, whilst looking attractive and professional. Design should never get in the way of content. Our sites always aim for this balance, and our feedback from the facilities we build into most sites by default confirms that our users think we succeed.
